Few collaborations carry the depth and authenticity of “Zonga”. Bringing together South Sudanese artist and peace ambassador Emmanuel Jal, the vibrant Angolan-Congolese voice of Salima Chica, alongside acclaimed Angolan producers Octavio Cabuata and DJ Free, the release stands as a celebration of African musical identity through a contemporary Afro electronic lens. Driven by rich percussion, warm melodies and expressive vocals, “Zonga” blends tradition with forward-thinking production. Every artist contributes a distinct perspective: Emmanuel Jal’s unmistakable storytelling and global presence, Salima Chica’s soulful delivery rooted in Afrobeats and African rhythms, and the refined production of Octavio Cabuata and DJ Free, whose work continues to shape the modern Afro House movement. Together, they create a record that feels both deeply rooted and effortlessly timeless.
For the remix, acclaimed Angolan producer Djeff adds another chapter to the story. Long regarded as one of the pioneers of Afro House, his unmistakable sound transforms “Zonga” into a deeper, more hypnotic club experience, layering sophisticated grooves and hypnotic percussion while preserving the emotion and spirit of the original.
The result is a release that bridges generations and cultures, uniting artists who have each played an important role in the evolution of African electronic music. More than a collaboration, “Zonga” is a meeting of voices, stories and rhythms: a record that speaks as naturally to the dancefloor as it does to the heritage that inspired it.
