Reinterpreting A Classic: beatsbyhand feat. Sió – Trick Me
Following a string of successful covers, Stay True Sounds and South African producer beatsbyhand return with a fresh reinterpretation of a classic, this time through a deep house lens.
This annual series of reimaginings began with “Gypsy Woman” featuring Kali Mija, later elevated by an Atmos Blaq remix. It continued with “King of My Castle,” and then “Say Yes” (Floetry) featuring the incredible Rona Ray, which climbed to #1 overall on Traxsource for weeks, helped along by a standout remix from Jimpster.
Now, beatsbyhand returns to reimagine Kelis’s 2004 hit “Trick Me” (originally produced by The Neptunes). Its bold lyrical stance – “You might trick me once, I won’t let you trick me twice” has only aged like a fine wine over time.
In this cover, beatsbyhand delivers his signature blend of timeless textures, house beats, and hooky reinterpretations, while Sió, Jozi-based vocalist, songwriter, and poet, offers a compelling vocal performance that brings both introspection and confidence. Her delivery reframes the original, flipping this R&B anthem into something fresh and relevant for today’s dancefloors.
We’ve tested it. It’s moving crowds.
