Nicole Musoni & Mistaek – When I Love

WHEN I LOVE is a celebration of the kind of love we don’t hear enough about.

In a world where so many songs are about heartbreak, we wanted to create something that honors a love that feels safe, joyful, grounded, and deeply rooted in community. Growing up between cultures taught me that love can look different from one place to another, but its language is universal.

Together, Mistaek and I blended English and Kinyarwanda over Afro-reggae to create a song that feels honest to who we are and where we come from.

We filmed this video in a small Rastafarian village in Uganda because we wanted to capture the beauty of everyday African life …. the simple moments, the laughter, the connection, and the sense of belonging that often goes unseen. It was also important for me to embrace my natural beauty and celebrate an authentic, confident, and unapologetic vision of African womanhood.

More than anything, I hope you don’t just hear a love song—I hope you feel transported. I hope this music makes you smile, slow down, dance a little, and remember that the strongest love is built on kindness, reciprocity, and choosing one another every single day.
